Sasha Kurmaz is a photographer and video artist born and based in Kiev. His creations around sex are both provocative, and lyrical! He also does an outstanding work portraying contemporary Ukraine. He’s been collaborating with XConfessions for over a year now and his work matches perfectly with the most crazy, joyful (some times a bit absurd!) confessions.

➢ Tell us a bit about how and when you first started making art.
I began my artistic practice from draw graffiti in the early 2000s, graffiti greatly influenced my relationship with public space. At one point, I began to understand that I can’t fully realize my creative potential with graffiti, and I started looking for a way out. So I began experimenting with photographic images.
➢ If you would describe yourself in one image, what would that be?
➢ How did erotica become a subject to your work?
It is not the subject of my work, it’s a part of me.
➢ What inspires you the most, artistically and sexually?
My practice is situated at the intersection of activism, sub-cultural communication, and art.
Hence, political, social, and artistic issues are equally important to me, and I find it interesting to use the theme
of sexuality and physicality to create political messages.
➢ Did you ever find a good visual representation of an orgasm? If so, can you share it with us?
Hmm.. I think it is impossible to convey the visual image. There are plenty of banal images about it.
But really, I’m not sure that it is possible.
