Meet My Communications Manager – Andrea!
Andrea has been with me for over 2 years now. There are many things I love about her: She’s smart, she’s brilliant at what she does and she is an incredibly hard worker (she is the last one to leave the office…like literally every day!)
So brace yourselves and scroll down if you’re ready for some serious girl power 😉
My name is Andrea and I am the Communications Manager at Erika Lust.
I graduated in Law in 2009 but I was always passionate about cinema, sexuality and women issues and I have always been good at telling stories. The moment I saw the job offer on LinkedIn I knew it was meant to be my job. It has changed my life drastically.
I talk to press every day, I am updated on the newest stories about filmmaking, sex work, the porn industry, women issues and worldwide news. I decide what to do with the press requests we receive and I actively look for journalists whose line of work aligns with what we do. I create the communication strategy and along with the communications team I decide what are the key messages and the important stories to tell and how to do so. Basically how to use organic, owned and paid media altogether to get our message out there.
I am a big reader. From universal classics to graphic novels but also film reviews, academic journals and essays about a myriad of topics. If someone had told me I would be reading about law in my 30’s after leaving a job as a lawyer I disliked, I would have not believed it but the intersection of sex work, free speech and legislation is crazy and I spend a lot of my personal time reading about that now too.
One of my favorite things is discovering a good article (pretty rare nowadays) and thinking to myself ‘That’s a good journalist, I want Erika featured in that outlet’. That is what drives me. I strongly believe in Erika’s mission so I aim for the biggest and best coverage.
On a side note, I was given the chance to manage my own team at Erika Lust. I am super grateful for that. This opportunity has sparked my willingness to grow professionally and to aim very high.
My Favourite XConfessions Film
That’s such a difficult question! I lean towards more artistic films with beautiful soundtrack like Circus Aerius Perversus and Dirty Feet. However, films like ‘A Feminist Man‘, ‘Car Sex Generation’, I Wish I Was A Lesbian’ and ‘The Toilet Line’ feel extremely relatable to the way I have sex or I’d like to have sex and that turns me on a lot.
Lately, I have been enjoying the guest-directed short films on XConfessions. The cinematic diversity the open call is bringing is amazing. What these directors are creating with Erika is a luxury for the eyes. I call it the new golden age! Led by women this time!
My Favourite Non-XC Movie
Ovidie’s Le Baiser without a doubt. I love the story and how it represents bisexuality both in men and women, so stupidly and unrealistically represented in porn and mainstream media most of the times. Love it!
My Favourite Toy From The Store
I don’t have a particular favorite toy yet. But every time I get to try a new one, it is a whole experience. I remind myself of a Samantha Jones. She used to plan ahead for masturbation time! Me too. Self-care is very important and I make it special. It’s like a date but with myself.
My Favourite Confession That Isn’t A Film Yet
I’ll keep that to myself! I draw the line there! 😉
