Who Is Felix Mufti?
Felix Mufti is a Scouse writer and performer. His work is rooted in community and LGBTQ+ activism. He is also a lecturer and facilitator, including work at the University of Oxford. His short film Lonelier Than Love, which he also stars in, was funded by BFI x Film Hub North. The film premiered at BFI Flare 2026. Felix comes from a playwriting background, with two funded productions, How to Kill a Rose and Be Gay, Do Crime, the latter staged at Shakespeare North Playhouse. His writing often explores identity, queer culture, and social justice through bold, community-centered storytelling.
Felix has also received further Arts Council funding to write a book titled Goths, Mings and Scruffs, which he will be developing alongside a programme of community workshops and engagement. Felix is a co-director of Protect Scouse Dolls, a Liverpool-based community aid fund and charity supporting trans people locally. Alongside this work, he is an established drag and cabaret performer, performing internationally at major festivals and events, including Glastonbury Festival’s Shangri-La, Le Tripostal (Lille), and UNIT (Tokyo). Felix is best known for playing Roman in the final season of Sex Education. Their wider credits span theatre, live performance, and screen, including work with Fuel Theatre, Barbican, and Ninja Tune.
His journey into ethical adult porn grew out of activism, performance, and lived experience. Frustrated with the limitations and censorship present in more traditional creative industries, Felix found in adult film a space where sexuality could be explored honestly and where stories could respond to real people rather than imposed expectations. Ethical practice is central to Felix’s work as a director. He prioritizes communication, collaboration, and clear boundaries, believing that film sets can become progressive spaces when performers feel respected and heard. His approach emphasizes early conversations, mutual understanding, and creating emotional safety before filming begins. These principles were shaped by their own experiences as actors, including moments where emotional discomfort was ignored in non-explicit productions. Felix has described directing for Erika Lust as a turning point: “I have always wanted to direct, and Erika Lust allowed me to make this a reality. They were so supportive and trusting in the process, and it was refreshing to create a film that truly reflected my vision.”
