Who is Mad Kate?

Text, sweat, politics, and pleasure, that is the territory of Mad Kate (Kathryn Fischer), a Berlin-based performance artist with a rebel heart. Kate is originally from San Francisco but found their artistic home in Berlin’s queer underground, where they work across dance, spoken word, vocals, fashion, and queer feminist porn. Movement is central to everything Kate does. As an improvisational dancer, Mad Kate draws from ballet, Afro-Cuban forms, and Butoh, bending techniques until it becomes something entirely their own. That same physical intensity carries into their role as front person for the punk-rock-cabaret band Kamikaze Queens. Behind the glitter and noise is a commitment to critical thought and social engagement. Mad Kate holds an MFA in Writing and Consciousness and a BA in Peace and Conflict Studies, with a focus on gender and sustainable development. Their writing has appeared in numerous feminist and cultural publications, and their work extends into activism, supporting immigrants and asylum seekers, collaborating with women in rural farming cooperatives in Nicaragua and Haiti, and teaching creative writing inside the San Francisco Women’s Jail. For more than a decade, Mad Kate has shared a powerful creative relationship with the iconic artist Peaches. Together, they have collaborated on stages and projects across Berlin and beyond, including as co-founders of the contemporary performance collective CLUSTERFUCK, alongside Adrienne Teicher (HYENAZ). Their shared world—loud, political, sexy, and defiantly queer celebrates bodies in motion, pleasure, and the freedom to invent new ways of being together.
