Who is Mar Nantas?

Mar Nantas is a performer, director, and screenwriter working at the intersection of art pornography, experimental cinema, and documentary film. Based in Barcelona, she has long been fascinated by sexuality and its artistic representations, exploring how erotic cinema can exist alongside and challenge traditional filmmaking. She studied Art History at the University of Barcelona, later continuing her education in cinema and documentary filmmaking. Mar completed the Master’s in Creative Documentary Theory and Practice at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, followed by the Master’s in Fiction for Film and Television at Blanquerna. In 2023, she was selected for the ESCAC-Netflix Inclusive Creativity Scholarship, where she pursued advanced studies in screenwriting. Mar is the co-director of the documentary DIYSEX, a film selected at international festivals including Karlovy Vary, and continues to work across both documentary and erotic cinema. As a performer, writer, and director within Erika Lust’s XConfessions, she develops projects that blur the boundaries between art film and adult storytelling. Her work often focuses on desire, performance, identity, and cinematic experimentation, reflecting her ongoing goal: to break the cultural and economic barriers that still separate so-called “conventional” cinema from erotic cinema. She has also worked as a lecturer and screenwriter, teaching about filmmakers such as Naomi Uman and sexuality in documentary and experimental cinema. Her first feature film, La Revolución de las Musas o Cómo Posar sobre unas Piedras Desnuda, premiered with support from the ICAA at the Atlàntida Film Festival. Today, she continues to develop film projects while working in the Screenwriting Department at ESCAC.
