La Fantasia di Beba by Lidia Ravviso

Lidia Ravviso continues to re-write the narrative of sex workers presented in romantic Italian movies in the 70s and 80s with this erotic film. Beba is an independent & wise woman who consciously taps into the tired stereotypes placed on sex workers. She chooses to imitate these stereotypes by wearing a deep shade of red lipstick and symbolic red shoes. Ravviso, through Beba, rejects the idea that sex workers are always stigmatised or victimised by presenting a woman working with free agency due to her own pleasure & desire.
