Welcome to my Fucking Playlist takeover. Each week creatives from all over the world select their top songs for, you guessed it, fucking. This week, it's Alex Odgen-Clark aka Lipglosslezza. If you like Prince, Kate Bush or Patti Smith - this one's for you.
Alex Ogden-Clark is a makeup artist and content creator. Born in a council estate in north liverpool, everything she creates is built on a foundation of scouse, working class glamour with a queer twist. She is a literal lipstick- or lipgloss- lesbian.
1. Name:
Alex Ogden-Clark, known online as lipglosslezza
2 Where are you from?
Liverpool, the greatest city on earth.
3. Describe your personality in 3 words:
Council Estate Dyke
4. What makes you feel sexy?
Being my authentic self! Women, especially queer women, often shrink themselves to be palatable and avoid being othered or seen as outlandish sexual deviants, so I feel my most sexy when I’m completely uninhibited and not performing a version of femininity. No bra, belly not sucked in, body hair, snort laughing; 100% me, 100% sexy. Also… lipgloss.
5. What's the best concert you've ever been to (and why)?
Before she blew up, I saw Lizzo with my best friends in a small tent at Leeds festival. They only knew a few songs, but I dragged them into the cold to watch her because I’d heard she was incredible live. We were hungover, it was pissing down and the crowd was full of straight men standing still. Lizzo TORE the dead atmosphere apart and had even the most awkward man dancing. I’m a lifelong fan now, the woman oozes talent and can REALLY put on a show.
6. What's your favorite part of your body?
As a white person that doesn’t have a papercut for a mouth, it has to be my lips. I feel grateful every day!
7. What's your favorite time to listen to music?
Listening to music in the morning sets the tone for the day, so I love to put a playlist on the second I open my eyes. Do I want to feel empowered, sensual, businesslike etc.? Well, I’ve got a playlist for that!
8. How do you like to relax and unwind?
Long baths and menthol cigarettes. I’m not sure either are physically good for me, but, God, do they quiet my mind.
9. What do you think is the most important quality in a lover/partner?
My girlfriend would definitely disagree (they think my favourite thing about them is how tall they are), but for me, the ability to communicate is the most important quality in a lover or partner. Whether it’s just telling a one night stand exactly how to touch you, or telling a long term partner something more serious, being able to communicate your feelings and desires is crucial. Honesty gets my dick hard!
10. How do you get inspired?
I go outside. Being glued to screens all day makes my brain foggy and erodes all original thought. Sometimes just breathing fresh air and touching grass, even if that’s a tiny patch outside the newsagents, helps me recentre myself and think clearly.
1. Your go-to song to get in the mood / get turned on?
Because the Night - Patti Smith
No song really captures the hunger and desperation of wanting to fuck like Because The Night. The building piano, Smith’s yearning vocals, the passionate lyrics. It’s delicious. A classic for a reason.
2. A song you have a fun/crazy sex story about?
Nicki Minaj - Starships
I went back to a girl’s place after a first date and things were going pretty well; We were laughing and making out, so she invited me upstairs. In her room there’s LOADS of hula hoops, which is actually not that strange- East London warehouse dykes are weirdly into circus skills- and I made an offhand comment about them. The girl tells me to close my eyes, queues up Nicki Minaj and has me open them, while she did a multi-hoop strip tease to Starships. I was so shocked I couldn’t even laugh! 10/10 for shock value, unfortunately, only like … 5/10 for seduction.
3. A song that always makes you feel sexy?
Air - Sexy Boy
Posing in the mirror to French whisper singing “je serai beau comme un Dieu” (I will be beautiful like a God) has me feeling like the ULTIMATE supermodel. This is my favourite getting ready song. It’s atmospheric and mysterious and just effortlessly hot; the opening bars instantly transport me to a dimly lit, sweaty club basement.
4. A song that you never get tired of listening to?
Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones
No matter the year, this song is always on my ‘Most Listened To’ playlist.I thought about girls to the song as baby lesbian, and no doubt I’ll be thinking about girls to it when I’m a GILF. I first heard the Blink-182 cover when I was a teenager, which led me to discovering The Only Ones and other post punk, so this song has been really influential in developing my music taste. Upbeat and summery, even though it’s apparently about heroin rather than lust, this song really encapsulates intense teenage infatuation.
5. A song that reminds you of a lover?
I Wanna Be Your Lover - Prince
Everything Prince has ever released is sensual and hot and this is no exception, but the upbeat opening to this song captures the almost childlike whimsy of being completely head over heels besotted. I’ve adored this song forever, but until I met my current girlfriend I couldn’t understand that all consuming lust of wanting to be the centre of a person’s universe as they are yours. There’s relatable lyrics in “I ain’t got no money” and “I wanna be the only one you come for” too!
6. A song that helps you relax?
Tommib Help Buss - Squarepusher
This is such a therapeutic song for me, the aural equivalent of melting into a freshly made bed after a long day. I almost meditate when I’m listening, using it to connect with myself; it’s the song I put on at the start of a long, relaxing bath and is track one on my self love playlist. Beautiful.
7. Last song you played for someone?
The Waterboys - Whole of the Moon
I sincerely think this is one of the greatest love songs ever written- an ode to a person with an effortlessly wise and beautiful mind- so naturally, I’m trying to ‘Pavlov’ my girlfriend into thinking about me when they hear it. I’ve read it was inspired by Prince too, which gives it an extra layer of gorgeousness.
8. The song that best defines you?
You Don’t Own Me - Lesley Gore
Lesley Gore was a lesbian, and that plays directly into my interpretation of this song: not belonging to men or being for their consumption. I relate to this song as a lesbian, a survivor of sexual assault, a woman, and somebody with a fluid gender indentity. I am not powerless, I will not be moulded, I am strong.
9. A song from a concert you loved?
Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush
My overdraft still hasn’t recovered from seeing Kate Bush at her Hammersmith residency in 2014, but I’ll never regret it. She’s had such a massive impact on my life, who I am as an artist and a woman, so I knew I had to jump at the only chance I’d get to see her. The entire gig was incredible, seeing her perform songs I’ve had on repeat since I saw her first Top of The Pops performance being torn apart on a clip show when I was a kid. When she played Running Up That hill, though, it really hit me that “Fuck, I’m actually in a room with Kate Bush.” Magical! I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
10. A song from a sexy music video you love?
Juicy - Doja Cat
I could have picked any song and music video by Doja, she is mesmerising, but this one is next level. I guess I also like it thick and fat!
⚠️ Bonus songs ⚠️ Tell us 5 bonus songs and why you chose them…
Not Tonight - Lil Kim
Ladies, don’t be afraid to ask for what you want! “I don't want dick tonight, eat my pussy right!” Feminist sex anthem from the Queen.
Give It To Me Baby - Rick James
It’d be criminal to do a sex playlist without including disco funk, and this track is one of my favourites. The rolling bassline! The horns! So erotic!
Of All The Gin Joints In All The World - Fall Out Boy
I’ve never grown out of my Myspace phase, so I have to throw in one of the horny, emo, incel songs from my teenage years. A song about a relationship that can only be physical because your beau doesn’t understand the ReAL you <//3
Oh Baby - LCD Soundsystem
The ultimate breakup sex song- sensual, building synth layered under lyrics about toxic lovers.
Vibeology - Paula Abdul
In this song, Paula asks whether her lover wants something serious, or if it’s a hit and run. Her impeccable dancing, lustful voice, and back catalogue of absolute bangers have me asking just who would wanna hit and quit Paula Abdul? This is the perfect song for grinding in a gay bar, just watch that one iconic Drag Race lip sync.
