Who is Sulema Vasquez?

Sulema Vasquez is a queer performer, creative, and healthcare professional based in Berlin, whose life and work span multiple cultures and disciplines. Before settling in Germany, she lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Veracruz, Mexico; and Wisconsin, USA, experiences that continue to shape her artistic perspective and the stories she chooses to tell on screen. As a solo parent and outspoken advocate for postpartum bodies, Sulema challenges the widespread idea that motherhood ends sexual exploration. For her, sexuality and parenthood can coexist and even strengthen each other. As she puts it: “Parenthood should be the enhancement or the continuity of exploration and sexuality instead of the erasure of it… Unfortunately, that is not the mainstream narrative, and I am contributing to the work to change that.” Through her performances and creative work, she aims to broaden how bodies, pleasure, and life experiences are represented in porn cinema. Sulema strongly believes in sex positivity and the power of adult film as a form of education when it reflects real people and diverse identities. She is particularly committed to expanding representation and dismantling harmful stereotypes often placed on “brown female” roles in mainstream media. Her journey into adult filmmaking began with erotic self-portraits, created in response to the lack of bodies that looked like her own. From there she moved into collaborative shoots, solo sex videos, erotic documentaries porn videos, and artistic film projects, gradually building a body of work centered on authenticity, pleasure, and cultural identity. Eventually, that path led her to her first non-solo cinematic production with Erika Lust, XConfessions. Sulema often reflects on the decision to pursue multiple passions at once, healthcare, activism, art, and erotic cinema, rather than choosing only one: “Society often paints the picture that we have to pursue one dream or the other… I said ‘a la chingada,’ I choose them all. I refused to choose, and ironically, that was the best choice I ever made.”
