The Saree Shop: XConfessions' first Indian themed movie

My friends call me picky…. but so what if I want to get off of dating apps like tinder and plenty of fish?!?! What happened to the days where you met people in cafes, bars, parks, parties, restaurants, stores, etc? Is that so much to ask for? I think not.

I imagine walking into a store one day and finding a handsome shop assistant who I can't help but make eyes at. His look is penetrating and playful at the same time. He is dedicated to my satisfaction… and not only as his client…. He makes sure I am more than content when I walk out of that store.

Now that's what I call customer service….

XConfessions' first Indian themed movie is here! The Saree Shop, which I co-directed alongside acclaimed adult performer and sex educator Kali Sudhra is a colourful erotic movie that celebrates South Asian sexuality. We've received a lot of confessions recently from people in India recently and I really wanted to direct a movie based on the fantasies.

The short movie follows Mehrunissa (Kali Sudhra) who is in a saree shop with her friends looking for the perfect outfit for an upcoming wedding. She's a very picky customer but she's in good hands because the shop assistant Kajal knows exactly what he's doing… As he finds the perfect fabric, Mehrunissa finds herself lost in erotic fantasies, mesmerised by Kajal's taste.

As well as being the first South Asian themed movie, it's also the first time I've co-directed a project and I couldn't have picked a better person to do it with. It was an amazing experience making this and I learnt a lot about the saree and South Asian traditions from Kali and Kajal, which I'm forever grateful for. We often forget that in the ancient world India was a pioneer in sex education and eroticism, until British colonisation when their sexual liberalism was stigmatised and considered proof of their inferiority. So I'm very happy that I got to make this movie with Kali and Kajal to smash the stigma around sexuality in the South Asian world.
