Welcome to a new series of playlists. First up, the Self-Love Club Playlist takeover. Each week creatives from all over the world select their top songs for your self lovin'.
This week, it's Colorado-native / LA-based creative Brittany Hoffner giving us all the necessary vibes to sink into a Self-Love Club. If you like Bruce Springsteen, L’Imperatrice, BADBADNOTGOOD or Zero 7 - this one is for you.
Brittany is a creative originally from Colorado, who has lived in LA for the last four and a half years and recently relocated to NYC to change things up a bit. She’s pursuing modelling and acting, as well as looking into opportunities in the visual and creative aspects of fashion.
“Not Counting Numbers Obviously” by Alabaster DePlume - I love jazz and recently discovered this artist, it makes me feel super calm and inspired. Makes me want to dance as well.
“La Grippe” by Jane Birkin and Etienne Daho - I always listen to this in the car when I’m in LA, and on PCH so it brings back good feelings
“Mushaboom” by Feist - this song reminds me of autumn in Colorado when I was in high school and would sit in my AP Art Class and paint, I have very fond memories of that and how simple it was and the changing of seasons
“Baby’s Wearing Blue Jeans” by Mac DeMarco - Another one that I would have on queue for my PCH drives and this is my California song, it’s just so good and such a mood. Plus I’m in love with Mac DeMarco
“Koop Island Blues” by Koop and Ane Brun - Sexy song, I picture myself in a little skirt and top somewhere on an island alone, but in the best, sad girl way possible. I love it
“Where Do You Go To (My Lovely) by Peter Sarstedt - I love the lyrics to this, you know those songs that you feel are made for you and you’re not even sure why? “Your loveliness goes on and on, yes, it does / when you go on your summer vacation / you go to Juan-les-Pins / With your carefully designed topless swimsuit / You get an even suntan on your back, and on your legs"
“Time Moves Slow” by BADBADNOTGOOD - Another sexy, sad song. I feel like the reason I like melancholy songs is because I can be introspective, but also love balancing it out with really feel good songs.
“The Fever - Studio Outtake - 1973” by Bruce Springsteen - My good friend Sophie recommended this to me and I fell in love with it. I listen to it a lot while walking around at night also and people-watching
“Baby Where You Are” by Ted Lucas - the sweetest song I ever did hear, it just puts me really at ease and I love sweet thangs as we all do
“Shark Smile” by Big Thief - I love these lyrics as well - I’m a big words person so I think if a song paints a visual for me it gives me a really strong feeling, whether it’s happy or sad I think it’s positive if it makes me feel something
“In the Waiting Line” by Zero 7 - A song that puts me at ease. A really chill song, I like songs that I can also place into moments in my life as if it were a movie
“Sonate Pacifique” by L’Imperatrice and Isaac Delusion - a song I danced to in the desert, and another of those songs that makes me feel free
“Weight of the Planets” by Aldous Harding - I love all of Aldous’ lyrics and her songs are super mellow and easy to relax to
“Ballade de Melody Nelson” by Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin - a forever favorite and I love this entire album, it’s a song I like to just listen to and check-out
“S’Wonderful” by Joao Gilberto - My singing in the shower song
“Gypsy Woman” by Joe Bataan - The BEST road trip song and also the best song to listen to at the beach in my opinion
“Sax and Violins” by Talking Heads - This song is freedom, haha I listen to this a lot when I’m walking at night in the city now so I associate it with the feeling of a new place and how much each place I go to has to offer (for example, moving to NY)
“Otha Fish” by The Pharcyde - A good song to just let go to
“Got To Give it Up” by Marvin Gaye - If I could have a song to play as soon as I enter into any room it would be this song, it’s so happy and care-free
