Welcome to my Fucking Playlist takeover. Each week creatives from all over the world select their top songs for, you guessed it, fucking. This week, it's Rosa Cecilia. If you like Erykah Badu, Solange and Gwen Stefani - this one's for you.
Rosa Cecilia is a singer-songwriter based in London. She has just completed her debut EP and is releasing it on a single by single basis on all streaming services and social media. Her songs touch on several themes, from young love and a desire for freedom to socio-political issues and disparities. Her Chilean-Italian heritage also inspires her multilingual lyrics. Check out her first single, Paradise, out now!
1. Name:
Rosa Cecilia
2. Where are you from?
London, England
3. Describe your personality in 3 words:
Passionate, Driven, Romantic
4. What makes you feel sexy?
With others, that perfect balance of flirtation and humour gets me every time. I also love vintage lingerie - specifically a low-cut silk slip.
5. What's the best concert you've ever been to (and why)?
AfroPunk in Paris. The entire festival just felt like a safe space; everyone was so chill and joyful. The lineup was a perfect blend of some of my icons - Solange, Raphael Saadiq - as well as some favorite new artists like Little Simz and Masego. All the food, clothing, and beauty stalls were run by small black-owned businesses, and it was just a beautiful space filled with uplifting energy.
6. What's your favorite part of your body?
Aesthetically - the shape of my stomach. Spiritually - my mouth.
7. What's your favorite time to listen to music?
Depends on the genre. For jazz, it’s in the bath. For funk, it’s getting ready to go somewhere exciting with friends. For neosoul, it’s sex, etc.
8. How do you like to relax and unwind?
With a rose salt bath, Alice Coltrane, Billie Holiday and Chet Baker.
9. What do you think is the most important quality in a lover/partner?
Authenticity, honesty and affection - in that order.
10. How do you get inspired?
My own emotions inspire me. The patriarchal narrative has criticized women for so long for apparently ruling too often with the heart rather than the head. But I’ve found that in music, good songs are often ones that translate the songwriter’s specific emotion into a more universal sentiment - something other people will relate to and empathize with.
1. Your go-to song to get in the mood / get turned on?
Lyk Dis by NxWorries
2. A song you have a fun/crazy sex story about?
Desabafo/Deixa Eu Dizer by Marcelo D2.
3. A song that always makes you feel sexy?
Still Ray by Raphael Saadiq. It’s the opening line for me - “I’m coming home to you, wear something see through, so I can see your heart”.
4. A song that you never get tired of listening to?
Jeep's Blues by Duke Ellington Live at Newport.
5. A song that reminds you of a lover?
Really Love by D’Angelo. It’s like a movie montage in my mind every time I listen.
6. A song that helps you relax?
I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes) by Chet Baker from his classic album Chet Baker Sings. The beautiful bell-like intro is so sleepy and gorgeous.
7. Last song you played for someone?
La vie by Ichon from A COLORS SHOW
8. The song that best defines you?
If not one of my own songs I’d say “Take the Box” from Amy Winehouse’s Frank album. It was the first song I learnt to really perform vocally and on the guitar and I made an acoustic version aged 14. That was the moment I realised I wanted to compose and get creative with lyrics and sound.
9. A song from a concert you loved?
The entire “When I Get Home” album by Solange performed at AfroPunk in Paris, 2019.
10. A song from a sexy music video you love?
Luxurious by Gwen Stefani was definitely a sexual awakening as a child hahah
⚠️ Bonus songs ⚠️ Tell us 5 bonus songs and why you chose them…
Next Lifetime by Erykah Badu - Perfectly encapsulates the desire to be loyal to the partner that you love so much while still appreciating the sexuality and beauty of other potential lovers.
Temptation by Raveena - A bisexual anthem and one that helped me embrace my sexuality.
Aquellos Ojos Verdes by Ibrahim Ferrer - A summer night track. Reminds me of my Chilean grandmother who is a walking icon from another more magical time and place. This song has a nostalgic, warm feel and its time signature is perfect for a slow dance followed by mojitos.
Xanadu by Olivia Newton John - This was the first song I recorded in a studio age 9. My dad probably has the recording somewhere! It’s a super cheesy song from quite a naff movie, but I love Olivia Newton John, and every time I hear this song, it evokes in me my first experience of the excitement of singing in a studio!
Ego by Beyoncé feat. Kanye West - A childhood fave. My sister and I were so obsessed; we used to choreograph dances to it in our room. We were about 10 and 7 years old - little did we know the whole song is a metaphor for wanting big d**k! Ah, childhood innocence…
