Indie adult filmmaker Erika Lust launches The Porn Conversation: a sex education non-profit providing free porn literacy tools for families and educators.
When young people aren’t provided comprehensive sex education at school or at home, they are left to learn about sex on their own. Which in many cases, will lead them to the free online porn tube sites. The issue with learning about sex through porn is many aren’t able to decipher between the reality and the unrealistic narrative that porn creates.
So when Erika Lust and her husband Pablo approached me to relaunch their non-profit project The Porn Conversation, I knew I had to team up with powerhouse sex educator and sexologist Bianca I. Laureano to produce the educational materials that young people deserve. Together we created conversation guides that are scripted for families to talk with their children and teens about porn, using porn literacy tools to do so.
Understanding that the conversation doesn’t end at-home, we also created 3 age-appropriate sex education curriucla and activity guides for educators to use. The topics range from anatomy & physiology, puberty & adolescent sexual development, gender identity & expression, sexual orientation & identity, sexual health, consent & respectful relationships, porn literacy to interpersonal violence.

The truth is, most pornography found online leaves people of all ages, genders, and sexualities with a misunderstanding of what sex and respectful relationships look like - which further maintains the rape culture we live in. Having The Porn Conversation promotes consent culture, which is a respectful and nonviolent alternative to rape culture, teaching young people that only they control their own bodies, and that any interaction with another person should always be received with their consent. By shedding light on the highly controversial debate on free online porn and today’s online sex culture, we at The Porn Conversation are campaigning for a more educated and alert generation, who are prepared and ready to make better choices about their sexual health; driven by knowledge, and not by fear or shame.
